Woman arrested in south Las Vegas Valley fatal crash

A woman was arrested after a fatal crash Saturday afternoon in the south valley, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

Police responded just before noon to the crash at Las Vegas Boulevard South and Barbara Lane, Metro Lt. Grant Rogers said. Police said a 47-year-old man was driving a 2014 Harley-Davidson north on South Las Vegas Boulevard. A 2004 BMW, driven by a 21-year-old woman, was traveling south on South Las Vegas Boulevard and tried to turn in front of the approaching motorcycle.

The Harley-Davidson struck the BMW and the man on the motorcycle was ejected. The motorcyclist was taken to University Medical Center where he later died, police said.

The BMW’s driver, a woman, was arrested on suspicion of possible impairment and taken to the Clark County Detention Center, Rogers said.

Las Vegas Boulevard South between St. Rose Parkway and Starr Avenue was closed for about four hours after the crash, but has reopened.

The death marks the 14th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2017.
