Woman’s body found below overlook at Grand Canyon’s South Rim

Rangers at Grand Canyon National Park have recovered the body of a woman from below the Trail View overlook on the South Rim.

They say the woman's name is being withheld pending positive identification and her family being notified.

Officials received a report from the Phoenix Police Department on Thursday about a possible suicidal woman in the park.

Rangers began searching for the woman in primary visitor areas.

A bus driver reported that at a woman fitting the description of the search subject exited the Hermit Shuttle at the Trail View overlook west of Grand Canyon Village.

Rangers found her parked vehicle. A body was later spotted about 100 feet below the Trail View overlook.

Retrieval of the body had to be delayed because of poor weather .
