World Market Center to shift annual summer market event to fall

The World Market Center in downtown Las Vegas will shift its annual summer market event to the fall, beginning in 2009, the market’s managers announced today.

They announced the change of dates along with plans to trim the duration of their twice-annual, industry-only furniture markets from five to four days.

The inaugural fall market will be Sept. 14 to the 17. Future fall markets will run Monday through Thursday and will be timed so they don’t conflict with Jewish holidays.

The upcoming winter market hasn’t changed. It is scheduled to take place Feb. 9 to Feb. 13.

World Market Center President and CEO Robert Maricich said the changes will make it more productive for thousands of furniture industry professionals who attend the events.

“Our research clearly shows that buyers and exhibitors don’t want more days in a market, rather they want to focus on a market that is convenient and productive and is respectful of their time and money,” Maricich said.
