LETTER: Little League squad merits financial support

To the editor:

As a grandparent who donates thousands of dollars each year to support my grandchildren’s sports teams, I say shame on Nevada. For the very first time, a Nevada team (Mountain Ridge) made it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. But players’ parents had to beg our community to help fund this trip. How embarrassing.

All year long, these young boys and their families sacrifice time and money to represent their community. Where are the movers and shakers? As always, they are self-serving. In addition, shame on the Chamber of Commerce and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Spending millions on a Las Vegas slogan that no one can understand or remember comes easily to our self-proclaimed community leaders. However, donating monies to fund these fine young people seems to elude them.

Priceless and wholesome publicity for Las Vegas will come from the loans parents had to take to accompany these Little League heroes. Shame on all of you.

Win or lose, Mountain Ridge has made history. Congratulations to our boys of summer.
