LETTERS: UNLV president comes at too high a cost

To the editor:

I like the choice of Len Jessup as the new president of UNLV (“Regents choose Jessup for UNLV,” Nov. 19 Review-Journal), but at an annual salary of $525,000? And a contract for five years? I also agree with Regent Cedric Crear about the risk, especially with a five-year contract. That’s a long time and a lot of money if results are not satisfactory.

Plus there are benefits. Isn’t the salary enough? And we wonder why education needs more money? And we wonder why college tuition is so high for students and parents? Egads! Isn’t that a larger salary than the president of the United States takes home? And Mr. Jessup has a nice summer break of a few months, too.
