Administrative incompetence triggered money shortfall at Clark County School District
September 3, 2017 - 9:00 pm
Your Aug. 31 front-page article about financial problems at the Clark County School District is a reflection of the incompetent people in administrative positions who are responsible for this travesty (“CCSD freezes hiring to save”).
The district’s CFO, Jason Goudie, and the current superintendent, Pat Skorkowsky, knew of the problems long before the public was made aware.
So now we have $80 million in cuts that will affect teachers, aides, maintenance workers and a host of others. This will further reinforce the district’s reputation as a bad school district at or near the bottom of most rankings.
What happened to the sales tax revenue on pot sales? Was that money not to go to the schools? And, of course, the lottery revenue that could solve these problems will never happen thanks to our considerate casino moguls.
A full independent audit of the financial situation needs to be done immediately.
But don’t worry, the Oakland Raiders are coming, the Golden Knights are here, soon we will get major league soccer and don’t think an NBA franchise is out of reality.
Education, is it not grand?
