Media should stop naming mass murderers

Far be it from me to want to stifle anyone’s freedom, including those in the press. But it seems to me that mass killers are mostly looking for their 30 minutes of fame. I believe the press should not be allowed to publish their names. All other aspects of the incident are fair game, but they should be reported as “John Doe shootings,” thus taking away the prime motive for these heinous acts.

Gun control is just a feel-good answer to a more complicated problem. If we look back on mass shooters, we see a common thread: disaffected loners who feel powerless and use their last breath to show the world what they can do. By keeping them anonymous, maybe, just maybe, we keep some from acting out.
