NFL players and the national anthem

After reading the Wednesday commentary by Mitch Albom (“Is there a better protest than sitting for anthem?”), I looked at the accompanying editorial cartoon. One panel depicted NFL player Colin Kaepernick sitting on a cooler. The next panel showed a military man in military uniform saluting. He also was sitting — but he was in a wheelchair because he had no legs.

I think it would be a wonderful idea to bring to one of these games the military men and women who fought for our freedoms and have suffered loses while doing so. Put them out on the field during the national anthem. I imagine they would be proud to honor the anthem and our flag. The ones who could would stand and the ones who could not stand would be proud to salute.
