Why are teachers involved in Clark County School District cuts?

The first sentence in your Aug. 31 article about the school district budget issues reads, “The Clark County School District has frozen hiring for nonessential employees, including teachers … ” What could be more essential to a school district than teachers? Are they going to have the janitors whose jobs were saved teach classes in their spare time?

Nothing is more important to a school than having qualified teachers. Every other position is nonessential. Teachers are essential.
