Stand up for U.S. citizens, not illegal aliens

To the editor:

In Wednesday's Review-Journal, the headline read, "Obama reinforces border." Really? Well if you read on, it goes on to say that the "Mexican Embassy hopes that the National Guard troops would be used to fight drug cartels and not enforce immigration laws." Really?

Cecilia Muñoz, White House director of intergovernmental affairs, told a group of Spanish-language reporters that the National Guard troops would not deal directly with migrants. Really?

So if the National Guard stops immigrants and they don't have any drugs on them, they're free to go into the United States?

Basically, that's what they're saying.

Forget that we are flooded with illegal immigrants and that our systems are overburdened with illegals.

But wait, there's more.

The article goes on to say, "Mexico has traditionally objected to the use of military forces to control undocumented migration, saying such measures would criminalize migrants and open the way for potential abuse." Well excuse me, but they are committing a crime -- not only by crossing the border illegally, but also by forcing taxpayers to spend millions of dollars each year to support them.

And not to mention, they refuse to learn English while in this country.

So when is our government going to start standing up for us, the American people?

I'm afraid it's not going to happen during this administration.

Test takers

To the editor:

I read about the students not passing the high school proficiency tests (Thursday Review-Journal). Good idea for the district to offer incentives like free movie tickets and restaurant coupons. Did administrators ever think of this: read, write, recite, review?

How about this: Work harder. How about more effort?

This is insane.

These kids are almost adults. Getting a job and being productive is not easy. A boss will not offer goodies to get you to do your work. Wake up.
