Nevada Republican Party chairman forgiven for capital confusion

CLEVELAND — All is forgiven, and Carson City is still the capital of Nevada.

Nevada Republican Party Chairman Michael McDonald joked with delegates at a lunch event Thursday about the media attention he got when announcing Nevada’s delegate roll call two days earlier at the Republican National Convention.

At the time, McDonald described the state as “from the great shores of Lake Tahoe to the most entertaining capital city — Las Vegas, Nevada.” He meant, of course, to call Las Vegas the “entertainment capital of the world.”

“We got national attention from Jimmy Kimmel,” McDonald said. The comedian ribbed McDonald about it on Twitter.

Nevada delegate Ron Knecht, also state controller, jokingly called out: “We forgive you, we love you and you’re doing a great job.”

Delegates, from Carson City to the entertainment capital of the world, gave McDonald a hearty round of applause.
