51s cool off Tacoma, split doubleheader

Chris Aguila and Adam Calderone homered and Rey Gonzalez pitched five effective innings to lead the 51s past the Tacoma Rainiers 7-2 in the second game of a Pacific Coast League doubleheader Monday night in Tacoma, Wash.

In the first of the two seven-inning games, Jack Wilson and Brad Nelson hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the fifth as the Rainiers won 3-1, their third straight win and eighth in their past nine games.

Gonzalez (5-4) held Tacoma (29-26) to one run on six hits and three walks and struck out five. All three of the Rainiers' walks came in the third inning, when they scored their lone run off Gonzalez, on a bases-loaded, double-play grounder.

Aguila hit a two-run homer and Brian Dopirak an RBI single in Las Vegas' three-run third, putting the 51s up 4-0.

Calderone's homer came on the first pitch of the sixth inning, and he added an RBI single in the seventh.

Dopirak went 3-for-4 to pace the 51s' 12-hit attack in Game 2, and Brad Emaus went 2-for-3 with a double in each game for Las Vegas (24-35).

Andrew Baldwin (4-1) held the 51s to one run on six hits and no walks in six innings in the first game. Jesse Litsch (0-3) took the loss, giving up three runs on eight hits and no walks in 4 2/3 innings.
