51s end six-game losing streak with 8-5 win at El Paso

The 51s rallied from a 2-1 deficit with three runs in the fourth inning and two each in the seventh and ninth to defeat El Paso 8-5 on Tuesday night in El Paso, Texas, snapping a six-game losing streak.

Las Vegas (33-19) scored its three runs in the fourth on a throwing error and two sacrifice flies. The 51s added to their 4-2 lead when Cesar Puello singled with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh and Xorge Carrillo hit a sacrifice fly. The 51s had a chance to add to their lead in the eighth with the bases loaded and one out but failed to score.

The Chihuahuas (24-29) rallied with one run in the seventh and two in the eighth to pull within 6-5. But that was as close as El Paso would get, as reliever Buddy Carlyle struck out Jeff Francoeur with the tying run on second. Las Vegas scored its two runs in the ninth on Omar Quintanilla’s RBI singled and Andrew Brown’s RBI triple.

51s starting pitcher Dana Eveland (4-1) went five innings, with Carlyle picking up his first save. Chihuahuas starter Odrisamer Despaigne (0-1) took the loss.

The teams meet at 10:o5 a.m. today in the second game of a four-game series.
