51s nip RedHawks, win eighth in a row

The 51s' Scott Richmond scattered three hits over seven innings, Jerry Gil and Ryota Igarashi were perfect in relief and Las Vegas won its eighth straight Pacific Coast League game, 2-1 in 10 innings over the host Oklahoma City RedHawks on Wednesday.

Richmond allowed only a seventh-inning home run to the RedHawks' Fernando Martinez, but it appeared Oklahoma City (17-17) would make the run stand up in trying to snap a six-game losing streak.

However, Las Vegas (18-16) scored the tying run in the top of the ninth and then pushed across the go-ahead run in the 10th to win for the 12th time in 13 games.

Travis Snider's sacrifice fly in the ninth scored Adeiny Hechavarria after Hechavarria singled and moved to third base on a wild pickoff throw by Oklahoma City reliever Xavier Cedeno.

The 51s took the lead in the 10th on two RedHawks errors and Ruben Gotay's groundout.

Gil, who worked two innings, picked up the win to improve to 2-0, and Igarashi earned his third save with one inning of two-strikeout relief.
