51s run up score on Isotopes

The 51s, already with an 8-5 lead, exploded for 10 runs in the top of the ninth inning to post an 18-5 rout over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Tuesday night in a Pacific Coast League game in Albuquerque, N.M.

Kevin Howard got the barrage started with a one-out, two-run single for Las Vegas (13-12). John-Ford Griffin had an RBI single, and A.J. Ellis and Griffin went on to score on bases-loaded walks.

Xavier Paul then hit a two-run, ground-rule double, Terry Tiffee followed with an RBI single, and Howard came back up with a two-run double to cap the outburst.

Paul, Tiffee and Howard each had two hits in the ninth inning, and Paul had two home runs earlier -- leading off the third and fifth innings -- on a 5-for-5 night that included two doubles.

Howard finished 4-for-6 with two doubles and five RBIs. Dwayne J. Pollok (2-0) threw five innings of two-hit relief to get the win, with no walks and three strikeouts.
