Alabama football player arrested on domestic violence charges
Alabama cornerback Cyrus Jones has been arrested on domestic violence charges in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Jones, 21, was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly damaging a woman’s cellphone and threatening her. He was charged with two misdemeanors: third-degree harassment and third-degree criminal mischief.
“We don’t ever condone any behavior that shows any kind of disrespect,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a statement Wednesday. “There was no physical contact in this situation. Once we get the facts, we will take the necessary steps to correct this behavior in the future.”
Jones, who had three interceptions as a junior last season, is the fourth Alabama player to be arrested since March. Defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor was dismissed from school after a domestic violence arrest and running back Tyren Jones was dismissed after an arrest for marijuana possession. Safety Geno Smith was arrested for allegedly driving drunk for a second time.
