13 young players picked for USA Select Team

Two brothers and three sets of teammates were among the 13 players picked for the USA Select Team, announced Tuesday by USA Basketball.

The Select Team will train with and against Team USA at at UNLV’s Mendenhall Center on July 18 to 21.

The Select Team roster includes brothers Mason Plumlee (Brooklyn Nets) and Miles Plumlee (Phoenix Suns). The three sets of teammates are Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes (Golden State Warriors), Doug McDermott and Jimmy Butler (Chicago Bulls), and Tobias Harris and Victor Oladipo (Orlando Magic). Filling out the roster are Trey Burke (Utah Jazz); Tim Hardaway Jr. (New York Knicks); Marcus Smart (Boston Celtics); Dion Waiters (Cleveland Cavaliers); and Cody Zeller (Charlotte Hornets).

“USA Basketball’s Select Teams are critical for getting some of the game’s brightest and most promising young players experience at the USA National Team level, and getting them into our pipeline,” Jerry Colangelo, USA Basketball National Team managing director, said in a statement.

The USA Select Team was first picked in 2007. Colangelo noted that several players, including Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder), Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers), Kevin Love (Minnesota Timberwolves) and Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls), have gone on to play with Team USA and will be at training camp in Las Vegas.

Joining them on the men’s national team will be Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards); DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento Kings); Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors); Anthony Davis (New Orleans Pelicans); DeMar DeRozan (Toronto Raptors); Andre Drummond (Detroit Pistons); Kenneth Faried (Denver Nuggets); Paul George (Indiana Pacers); Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers); James Harden (Houston Rockets); Gordon Hayward (Utah Jazz); Kyle Korver (Atlanta Hawks); Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers); Chandler Parsons (Dallas Mavericks); and Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors).

Training concludes with an intrasquad game at 6 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Thomas & Mack Center.
