Clippers’ Griffin starts fast

Blake Griffin’s debut for the Los Angeles Clippers was sensational. At
least the first few minutes was as the No. 1 overall pick scored the first
seven points against the Lakers in the Thomas & Mack Center.

Griffin hit a layup, an off-balance 12-foot banker, a 3-pointer from the
top of the key and had 10 points at quarter’s end along with four rebounds.

There’s about 3,200 here, fewer than the 6,000 summer league officials
anticipated. But one of the spectators is NBA commissioner David Stern, who
is attending the summer league for the first time. Stern is in town to
oversee Tuesday’s Board of Governors meeting at the Palms.

Griffin’s second quarter began on the bench. He returned with 6:58 to and
the Clippers comfortably ahead 31-16. He immediately threw down a
two-handed flush slam dunk.

By halftime, Griffin had 16 points and five rebounds in 17 minutes as the
Clippers led, 47-36.

Yes, it’s just one half of one summer league game, but Blake Griffin’s no
Kwame Brown.

We’ll let you know how he did in the second half shortly.
