McGee saves best for last

Ja’Vale McGee played his best game of the NBA Summer League on the final day of competition, pouring in 31 points to lead the Washington Wizards past the New York Knicks, 89-84, in Cox Pavilion. The former UNR center had 24 at halftime.

As for Wink Adams, he didn’t fare quite as well as his Reno counterpart. The former UNLV star never got in, the fourth time in five games he was a coaches’ decision. He played just seven minutes in the summer league and now, he has to hope his agent does a better job placing him in Europe than he did in the Summer League.

Top Rookie
Minnesota’s Jonny Flynn was selected the Rookie of the Month for July after averaging 17 points and 7.5 assists in the Summer League. He actually got a nice crystal trophy to commemorate the occasion. As a reward, he didn’t start against Chicago. That honor went to Ben Woodside.

El Sid in the house
Former UNLV great Sidney Green was watching the Bulls-Timberwolves game next to Chicago coach Vinny Del Negro. Green’s son Taurean is on the Bulls’ roster.

Blake MVP?
A little birdie told us that the Clippers’ Blake Griffin will be named the Summer League’s MVP and he’ll receive his award prior to the Clippers-Phoenix game at 7:30 in the Thomas & Mack. Maybe they’ll let his older brother Taylor present him with it. If not, “Clipper Darrell,” the buffoon who claims to be the team’s No. 1 fan, can do the honors.
