Horse Racing

TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Claiming $62,500, Fillies, 3-year-olds

1 Gladiatrix - Clear graduate in last facing winners for the first time; not meeting the strongest group you'll see.

3 Bella Palooza - She has won 3 times already showing a nose for the wire; that experience is her biggest edge.

Long Shot - 4 Belleofthebridle

Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $30,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up

4 Warren's Tony R. - Rafael Bejarano canceled his last mount Saturday; his mount the race before tossed him at the gate.

2 No Dream - His last win came with a $20k price tag; draw a line through last and his resume doesn't look so bad.

Long Shot - 6 Gilligan

Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

3 If You Do I Sue - You need to know the owner to understand the name; key vote comes from Rafael Bejarano.

1 Jacobita - FTS is favored despite higher profile riders on other horses; watch the tote board for clues.

Long Shot - 2 Magic Mama

Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $45,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

2 Hameildaeme - Dead-late closer will like the turf rail at zero; down the class ladder to the lowest rung of her career.

4 Magic Launch - Speedy sort won nicely off the claim by Hector Palma; P Val opted to ride Folk Dancer instead of returning.

Long Shot - 1 Glory Pride

Race 5 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds

3 Thrice the Vice - Dead-late closer can run over the cheap speed late; should offer good value at 9/2 odds.

7 Toro Trippi - Speedball will need to outbreak Warren's Dove to show who's boss; decent chance to wire the field.

Long Shot - 2 Swiss Arrogant

Race 6 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $45,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds

4 Vote of Approval - Ran like a horse that needed a race in last; adding blinkers on and keeps Garrett Gomez.

9 Dancing At Dark - Draw a line through the Cal Derby debacle and he looks pretty good; first turf try, but is bred for it.

Long Shot - 8 Parable

Race 7 - 7 furlongs, $250,000 Santa Monica, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

8 Switch - Pulverized a helpless group in the La Brea; this is clearly her race to lose, like the parking lot post too.

1 Pinkarella - Hate the rail post in this elongated sprint; she is quick and proved her mettle this summer, value at 8/1.

Long Shot - 2 Mother Ruth

Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), $70,000 Wishing Well, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

4 Givine - French import looks like an absolute killer; first time with Lasix, Joel Rosario tabbed for her SoCal debut.

5 Reba Is Tops - Honest sort has won 13-of-28 career starts; she rarely throws a bad one despite this much-tougher group.

Long Shot - 8 Subsidized

Race 9 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $54,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds

2 Tuesdays With P - If Gladiatrix wins the opener, move this one up; Bob Baffert is using Martin Garcia again.

3 Beautiful Sunday - Tepid chalk ran well in debut; there are enough question marks to make her very vulnerable.

Long Shot - 9 Bauble Queen

Best Bet - 8 Switch (race 7)

Santa Anita Park Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 19/5/$35.60; Long Shots, 10/1/$8.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Park Totals - 384/104/$669.70; Long Shots, 191/27/$285.60; Best Bets, 22/10/$39.30

SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - 5 Smokin Cat (2/1) in race 3 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Glazed Wings won at Tampa Bay Downs paying $3.40 to win, $3.40 to place and $2.10 to show. Stats - 22/18/$159.90
