Horse Racing: Today at Los Alamitos, July 2
July 1, 2015 - 11:42 pm
Post Time 2:15 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Shy Rosa - Claimed by Steve Miyadi off a sharp win in this same class; cozy outside post to lead or stalk the early pace.
4 Twelve Folds - Plunges in class to the lowest level of her career; Art Sherman is stabled at Los Alamitos so that is an advantage.
Long Shot - 2 Prima Gianna
Race 2 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
8 Big Hat Charlie - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this bottom rung; key vote for me is he is a first time gelding.
4 Coach John - Has run better than looked races and could be a player at juicy 6/1 odds; watch the tote board for additional clues.
Long Shot - 9 Thor’s Champion
Race 3 - 5 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
8 Aiming Straight - Blinkers on surely helped as she ran a real race after a disastrous debut; tough with one step of improvement.
3 Esmeralda Belle - Has run three times so no surprises are in store; she takes the blinkers off which could be an interesting factor.
Long Shot - 1 Warm Endowment
Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Warren My Boy - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this bottom rung; his last race is likely fast enough to defeat these.
5 Cowtownmary - Logical chalk in this bulkly maiden claiming field; there are a lot of slowpokes in here, so be wary of the few FTS.
Long Shot - 7 Dee for Dave
Race 5 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
1 Takem by Surprise - Like the ground saving trip in this abbreviated sprint; if you remember closers did very well at Los Alamitos.
5 Keegers - Sliding down the claiming ladder to this new low class; from the underrated Tom Bell barn with top jockey Joe Talamo up.
Long Shot - 8 Domingo Cat
Race 6 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
5 Leothelion - He won’t find a softer bunch to beat unless he moves to Phoenix; has been away more than two years, any rust?
8 Como Mid Padre - Has run horrible since claimed by Vann Belvoir; we know he can train, so expect a rebound effort at a decent price.
Long Shot - 10 Pax Tecum
Race 7 - 1 mile, $100,000 The Bertrando, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
10 Alert Bay - Is a perfect 3-for-3 wins over a main dirt track; this is a classy gelding who has been managed great by Blaine Wright.
7 Soi Phet - Dangerous horse for course with a perfect two wins here at Los Alamitos; been rested up so should be razor sharp for this.
Long Shot - 1 Spirit Rules
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Nite Delite - Even effort in career debut at Santa Anita; is stabled at Los Alamitos for Art Sherman, has home court advantage.
1 Alyeska - Expect a rail skimming journey under Sal Gonzalez; was green in debut, slow early but fast late.
Long Shot - 7 Lily Pod
Best Bet - 3 Warren My Boy (race 4)
Santa Anita Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 19/3/$13.80; Long Shots, 9/2/$14.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Final Meet Totals - 583/157/$876.80; Long Shots, 290/43/$490.00; Best Bets, 33/17/$68.60
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #5 Danette (2/1) in race 3 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Gridley Here ran out at Belmont Park. Stats - 89/60/$453.30; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
