Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, February 8
February 7, 2015 - 8:49 pm
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
2 Blooming Hannah - After a sharp second in last, Jeff Mullins aggressively drops her in class; improve one step and could crush.
5 Pocketfullofgreen - FTS from the Philip D’Amato barn; he has done so well you don’t hear Mike Mitchell mentioned much anymore.
Long Shot - 4 Queen Cactus
Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
2 Royal Temptress - Her debut down the hill last out was a real good one; should be flying fast in the latter stages.
4 Camyrn Kate - Has good tactical speed which can get her better position early on; Rafael Bejarano is the king of that.
Long Shot - 3 Onna Bugeisha
Race 3 - 7 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds
5 Never Ends - Was not bet in debut but ran like she has some ability; Jerry Hollendorfer babies typical improve with racing.
8 Wild At Heart - She was bet and ran well in career debut for Richard Mandella; like Flavien Prat as he tries hard every time.
Long Shot - 7 Dad’s Princess
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
5 Radiant Journey - Has shown steady improvement in each of her three career starts; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.
8 Zuzu’s Petals - Been away a year, but Rafael Bejarano does not ride empty wagons; in the clever hands of Marty Jones.
Long Shot - 3 Yana
Race 5 - 1 1/8th miles (turf), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds
11 Foolish Ways - Rare to get Rafael Bejarano at 6/1 on a live SoCal mount; this filly is still pretty green but shows some ability.
3 Redheads Rule - Stretches out around 2-turns after a pair of turf sprints; should enjoy the softer early pace and finish fine too.
Long Shot - 5 Conquest Artura
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
5 Quality Plan - Agapito Delgadillo returns after taking a lengthy time off; always capable, he seldom gets overbet on a live mount.
8 Night Badger - I hope Kieran Fallon is enjoying his SoCal winter vacation; for a world class rider, he is not getting much work.
Long Shot - 7 Raspberry Ala Mode
Race 7 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, 4-year-olds and up
8 Frensham - Gets class relief from the grade 1 Malibu for this; all things considered, he didn’t run badly while grossly overmatched.
10 Sir Barclay - Claimed by Bob Hess off a sharp win; like that he turns to main man Kent Desormeaux who is having another solid meet.
Long Shot - 6 Rolo Tamaci
Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), $75,000 Wishing Well, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
3 Sky Treasure - Dead late closer ran well down the hill in the Monrovia; with the turf rail at zero, she may be even more effective.
5 Fanticola - In three starts down the hillside turf course, has a win and two thirds; like the cutback in distance from the Megahertz.
Long Shot - 9 Birdlover
Race 9 - 6 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 4-year-olds and up
8 Crimson Giant - You can count Modesto Linares wins on one hand usually; this horse is live despite the unflattering 12/1 ML odds.
4 This Time I Win - Faces winners for the first time today after graduating last time; this is not the staunchest group though.
Long Shot - 2 Kings Adventure
Best Bet - 3 Sky Treasure (race 8)
Santa Anita Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/6/$31.80; Long Shots, 9/1/$9.00; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.00
