Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, June 7
June 6, 2014 - 8:45 pm
Post Time Noon
Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Itsabeautifulday – Has twice in a row given up the lead in the deep stretch; he might be a horse that needs to wear blinkers on.
2 Madame Forbes – If she runs back to her debut speed figure, she has a puncher’s chance to graduate; figures to sit mid-pack and grind.
Long Shot – 4 I’msoulflattering
Race 2 – 5 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
3 Sky Preacher – Second best in debut as a 3/10 chalk; if he improves one step he’ll be double tough to handle today.
8 Holiday Camp – FTS from Bob Baffert must always be respected; this $700K colt is among a cast of 2015 Derby contenders from the barn.
Long Shot – 2 Diamond Majesty
Race 3 – 1 mile, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
2 Got Even – Like the idea of Tyler Baze seizing the lead from the get go; stretching out from elongated sprint to route mile.
4 Kochees – Trainer change to Shaun Morrow from Mike Pender; suspect will need to watch the tote board for additional clues.
Long Shot – 6 Seeking the West
Race 4 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Misdeed – Like the cut back to a mile where his pocket trip can be more effective; is winless in eight career grass starts.
2 Uncharted Course – Part of a Richard Mandella uncoupled entry; bottomline, don’t expect him to duel with the chalk Misdeed.
Long Shot – 8 Oso Smart
Race 5 – 7 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up
7 Newfound Gold – Claimed by Robertino Diodoro after a game second; has shown a liking for Arcadia with 8-of-10 in the money finishes.
6 Half Dome Dude – Claimed by Jeff Bonde off a gritty second in last; ran way too good to lose and now facing a similar lot.
Long Shot – 2 Two Is To Many
Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
7 Smart Journey – Kent Desormeaux has some juicy mounts with a lot of A-list riders out of town; this one is overdue to graduate.
5 Troy Story – Talk about overdue, this one is winless in 21 starts; has been productive though earning more than $91K lifetime.
Long Shot – 9 Tribal Dude
Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Exclude – Good to see Iggy Puglisi get a mount from someone other than Paul Aguirre; this one looks live for Matt Chew.
1 Wonderful Union – Speedy sort has a chance for a rail skimming trip throughout; Edwin Maldonado is a talented speed rider too.
Long Shot – 7 Brave Act
Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Alpha Bullet – Did everything but win last time in a hardy effort; like the cut back in distance to this hillside turf course sprint.
10 Maxx the Giant – Another who is cutting back in distance today; like the parking lot post around the question mark turn.
Long Shot – 2 Will True Up
Race 9 – 1 1/16th miles, $100,000 Affirmed, 3-year-olds
6 Friendswith K Mill – Got a meaningful confidence booster last time out; tries another graded stakes, hopefully with better results.
4 Can the Man – Was put on the shelf after winning the Speakeasy last time out; been away 7-months, been working bullets for return.
Long Shot – 2 Big Tire
Race 10 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
3 Trelawny – Claimed by Mike McCarthy for owner Mike Repole; trainer was a long time assistant to Todd Pletcher.
6 Dysprosium – Interesting invader making his SoCal debut tonight; does so in the talented hands of Peter Miller, well worth following.
Long Shot – 7 Causeithertz
Race 11 – 6 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
7 Southern Sunrise – Red flag class drop as he slides down the claiming ladder; fast enough to win if all four wheels are assembled.
12 Old Pueblo – When Joe Talamo stays to ride the finale, that’s as good as gold; this one is for Peter Miller too, expect good things.
Long Shot – 4 Bosque Angel
Best Bet – 1 Misdeed (race 4)
Santa Anita Park Friday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/4/$21.40; Long Shots, 7/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.80
