Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, May 9
May 8, 2015 - 8:27 pm
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
5 Matriculate - FTS from Bill Spawr made enough notice to be the morning line favorite; has win early pedigree top and bottom.
7 London Legacy - Ran a winning race for this level last time out; if he repeats under Rafael Bejarano he can get his picture taken.
Long Shot - 6 Nardo
Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 Emyvale Court - Has lost three frustrating close finishes; one HOF rider Gary Stevens replaces another HOF jock in Alex Solis here.
11 Katy Drama - Like the parking lot post very much down the hillside turf course; figures to sit a nice trip and come rumbling late.
Long Shot - 9 Explicable
Race 3 - 1 mile, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
1 Rambling House - I like the rail post here at one mile on turf or dirt; short run to the first turn thus can save all of the ground.
6 Pefiolo - Was in deep water last time but can rebound; look at his race two back for $16K when he ran a solid second, can do that today.
Long Shot - 2 Know More
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $30,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
9 Q’Viva - Is winless in seven starts down the hill; key for me is she has been second four times and keeps knocking at the door.
4 Silver Mojave - NoCal shipper has been away 9-months; key for me is she has a good turf and synthetic surface resumes.
Long Shot - 3 Vanlose Stairway
Race 5 - 1 1/8th miles, $300,000 Vanity Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Warren’s Veneda - The scratch of Beholder has made this one the overwhelming favorite; has ripped off three stakes wins in a row.
4 My Sweet Addiction - If anyone can upset, it’s this hard trying mare; she has early speed and will try and control the early pace.
Long Shot - 2 Gas Total
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
9 Nextdoorneighbor - Has kept his winning ways since the barn switch to Peter Miller; Tyler Baze has been on an awful lot of those wins.
11 Oligarch - Speedball gets a parking lot post for this; Flavien Prat has been one of the bright surprises of the meet.
Long Shot - 6 Shame On Alex
Race 7 - 6 furlongs, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
5 Pat the Bear - After two sharp wins has been saddled with two tough losses; takes a sharp class drop from O/C $80K to O/C $40K tonight.
11 Ballado’s Banker - Leap of faith that Rafael Bejarano knows something about this Argentine import; watch to tote board for clues.
Long Shot - 8 Cherubim
Race 8 - 1 mile (turf), $100,000 American, 3-year-olds and up
3 Winning Prize - Was upset in the Thunder Road last time out; he looked like a winner late until Talco ran over him very late.
8 Bal a Bali - Brazilian import from HOF trainer Richard Mandella; he has teamed up with Flavien Prat for some nice priced winners.
Long Shot - 7 Home Run Kitten
Race 9 - 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
10 Sure Victory - Tyler Baze has a knack for winning the final race of the afternoon; Philip D’Amato has been one of his main patrons.
11 Show and Tell - Rafael Bejarano could wrap up a nice day here if things go his way; should improve in his second career start.
Long Shot - 4 Practical
Best Bet - 1 Rambling House (race 3)
