Take the Chiefs to cover 6-point spread vs favored Packers

The Chiefs have waited 11 days for the chance to wash away the bitter taste of their brutal last-second 31-24 home loss to the Denver Broncos. Kansas City will face a tough test today at Green Bay, which has won 10 straight games at Lambeau Field, but handicapper Lee Sterling (ParamountSports.com) likes the Chiefs grabbing 6 points from the Packers on "Monday Night Football" (5:15 p.m., ESPN (30)).

"I think it's a bad spot for Green Bay. I think that's why people are playing Kansas City. I think the extra rest helps K.C.," Sterling said. "They don't have a quick-strike capability. They have to have longer drives, unless (running back Jamaal) Charles breaks something, but I think Charles will come back and have a good game. Very rarely do good players have back-to-back bad games.

"To get to Green Bay, you've got to rush the passer and the Chiefs have good pass rushers."

The Packers (2-0), coming off a 27-17 comeback home win over the Seattle Seahawks, opened as 7-point favorites but smart money on the Chiefs has dropped the line to 6 at most Las Vegas sports books and to as low as 5½ points at the Westgate and Caesar's Palace, Harrah's and the Rio. The total is between 48 and 49 points.

"This is a classic battle between the public and the smart guys," South Point oddsmaker Jimmy Vaccaro said. "The line opened at 7 a few days ago and went to 6½, with all the parlay action on the favorite. We have a lot of liability and a lot of carryover on minus-6½ on the parlay cards."

The straight-up action has mostly been on the Chiefs.

"You usually see the Monday night game, 90 percent of the time, the favorite gets most of the attention," Vaccaro said. "But this time it's different. We're getting a lot of money on the 'dog."

Kansas City (1-1) has won six of the last seven meetings, dealing the Packers a 19-14 loss at Arrowhead Stadium in their most recent meeting in December 2011 to spoil Green Bay's 13-0 record. The Chiefs are 3-0-1 in their last four at Lambeau, though they haven't played there since 2003.
