TODAY AT SANTA ANITA by Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 – 1 mile, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 2-year-olds

1 Slapshot Man – Was disqualified from a win two races back; then stumbled at the start in last, speed from the rail tonight.

3 Whoyougonnacall – Showed improvement for Philip D’Amato in second career start; like that Joe Talamo remains loyal to the cause.

Long Shot – 7 Tiz Jolie

Race 2 – 1 mile, Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

2 West Riding – Bob Baffert entered Front Range to make this race go; filly is a Tapit with a tremendously high ceiling.

1 Yahilwa – Her last two dirt starts were both in grade 1 stakes; the class relief alone gives her a puncher’s chance in here.

Long Shot – 5 Taste Like Candy

Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $56,000, 2-year-olds

7 Diamond Majesty – Ran well in debut race on dirt; switches to turf where he should have the pedigree to handle it.

8 Bolo – FTS from the Carla Gaines barn; has been working terrific and has turf pedigree top and bottom to excel on grass.

Long Shot – 9 Grand Sky

Race 4 – 1 mile, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

5 Silk in Silver – Silky smooth win in last, first race off the claim by Kristin Mulhall; looks well placed for a repeat effort.

6 I’m No Patsy – Has won 2-of-3 starts at this mile distance; figures to use her tactical speed to sit a nice trip.

Long Shot – 4 Magic Number

Race 5 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $35,000, Maiden claiming $75,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

4 Partyin – Really fell apart last time after contesting for the early lead; her two races at Del Mar were good, over synthetics.

3 Doctor Susan – Was well bet in debut and did show some ability; Peter Miller taking the blinkers off for this.

Long Shot – 10 Blooming Hannah

Race 6 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

1 Silver Torch – After good races over Del Mar synthetics, won his debut try on grass; draws the advantageous rail going one mile.

4 Gallant Charm – Is winless in 9 tries on turf; however he’s finished in the money 6 times so he keeps teasing us.

Long Shot – 8 Romar Success

Race 7 – 7 furlongs, Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up

6 Hoppertunity – Bob Baffert using these races as a personal warm up for the Breeders’ Cup; shame he had to scratch American Pharoah.

Long Shot – 10 Pimpernel

Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds

5 Kluszewski – Named for the Cincinnati Red slugger Ted K; he cut the sleeves from his uniform to allow him freedom of movement.

6 Signature Cat – Was clearly overmatched in the grade 1 Hopeful; this is much easier, has plenty of early speed to compete.

Long Shot – 3 Zinvor

Best Bet – 5 Silk in Silver (race 4)
