BYU hands Tulsa rare home defeat

TULSA, Okla. -- Lee Cummard scored 26 points, including five free throws in the final 36 seconds, as Brigham Young held off Tulsa 74-68 to snap the Golden Hurricane's 28-game nonconference home winning streak.
Jonathan Tavernari had 20 points for BYU (11-1), and Jimmer Fredette scored 13, 11 of those in the second half.
Justin Hurtt led Tulsa (8-5) with a career-high 17 points, Ben Uzoh scored 15 and Jerome Jordan had 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Golden Hurricane.
Tulsa went on a 9-0 run late in the first half to grab a 32-24 lead and was about to extend it when Uzoh lofted a lob pass to Bishop Wheatley for a slam. But the ball rattled out and Emery Jackson drained a 3-pointer at the other end to stop the momentum.
BYU closed to within 35-31 at halftime.
BYU shot 52.8 percent from the field and outrebounded Tulsa 39-38, led by Tavernari with 10 rebounds. Tulsa shot 36 percent and made 4 of 21 3-pointers.
• New Mexico 68, New Mexico State 66 -- At Las Cruces, N.M., Daniel Faris hit a jumper with 40 seconds left to help the Lobos (9-5) edge the Aggies (6-7).
Faris' jumper gave New Mexico a 67-66 lead. New Mexico State's Hernst Larouche missed a jumper with 18 seconds left that would have put the Aggies up by one.
New Mexico guard Dairese Gary followed with a free throw at 14.1 seconds to put the Lobos up 68-66. The Aggies had a chance to tie or win the game but missed two shots in the final seconds.
New Mexico earned a season sweep of NMSU and leads the series 108-94.
New Mexico was led by Faris' 17 points and 11 rebounds. Roman Martinez added 16 points and Tony Danridge 12.
The Lobos made five of their eight 3-pointers in the second half and outrebounded the Aggies, 37-32.
New Mexico State got a season-high 22 points from Jonathan Gibson and 15 from Wendell McKines.
• Wyoming 84, Howard 75 -- At Logan, Utah, Brandon Ewing had 34 points and Sean Ogirri 15 to lead the Cowboys (11-2) past the Bison (1-10).
Tyson Johnson grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for Wyoming, which was playing in the four-team Duel in the Desert holiday tournament.
Wyoming went on a 13-2 run early in the first half and took a 48-33 lead into the break. The Cowboys led by double digits for most of the second half.
Howard closed to within 50-45 with 13:50 to play on a short jumper by Paul Kirkpatrick. But two 3-pointers by Ewing and four second-half steals helped the Cowboys extend their lead to 80-63 with 3:44 to play.
Chris McHenry led Howard with 29 points, and Eugene Wyatt scored 20 and Kirkpatrick 12.
• Texas Christian 62, Colgate 37 -- At Fort Worth, Texas, Kevin Langford had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Horned Frogs (8-5) past the Raiders (3-8).
Ronnie Moss was the only other TCU player to score in double figures with 18 points.
Ben Johnson led Colgate with 13 points.
