Cliff Josephy tops WSOP Main Event on Day 7 dinner break

Professional poker player Cliff Josephy of Muttontown, New York, is the chip leader in the World Series of Poker’s $10,000 buy-in No-limit Texas Hold ’em World Championship at the Day 7 dinner break Monday.

Josephy, a two-time WSOP bracelet winner and former top-ranked online poker player, nearly doubled his stack during the afternoon sessions and had 41.575 million chips when action stopped shortly before 6:30 p.m. at the Rio Convention Center with 18 players remaining.

The Main Event continues Monday night and will stop when the field reaches nine players. The remaining players return Oct. 30 to the Penn & Teller Theater to play for the $8 million first prize.

Michael Ruane of Maywood, New Jersey, currently is second with 37.1 million chips, while Vojtech Ruzika of the Czech Republic, who entered the day with the lead, is third (30.825 million).

Belgium’s Kenny Hallaert (25.675 million) and Fernando Pons of Spain (23.5 million) round out the top five.

William Kassouf was the biggest mover during the afternoon as the talkative Englishman moved up to sixth place (22.575 million) after opening Day 7 in 22nd place.
