New Mexico 76, UNLV 66
Darington Hobson and Roman Martinez each scored 16 points as New Mexico built a big early lead and held on to defeat UNLV 76-66 at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The 15 th-ranked Lobos (22-3, 8-2) took over sole possession of the Mountain West Conference lead, a half-game ahead of Brigham Young.
The Rebels (19-5, 7-3) cut an 18-point second-half deficit to two before suffering an offensive drought in the final minutes.
Oscar Bellfield scored 15 points to lead UNLV, which next plays Saturday at San Diego State.
New Mexico 40, UNLV 28 (halftime)
Darington Hobson scored nine points and New Mexico jumped ahead early en route to a 40-28 halftime lead over UNLV at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The Lobos made their first five 3-point attempts and built a 27-12 lead. The Rebels cut the deficit to 31-25 on Matt Shaw’s 3-pointer.
The top spot in the Mountain West Conference is on the line as 23 rd-ranked UNLV (19-4, 7-2) and 15 th-ranked New Mexico (21-3, 7-2) are locked in a three-way tie with Brigham Young.
