Cubs sorry fans endured bathroom hell on Opening Night

The Chicago Cubs apologized to its fans Sunday night after many experienced long wait lines at bathrooms inside Wrigley Field for its Opening Night game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

“Opening Day at Wrigley Field has always brought challenges with wait times and tonight was particularly extreme,” team spokesman Julian Green said in a statement to the Chicago Tribune.

Fans took to social media to complain about the bathroom situation.

“I’m at the #cubs opener. Everything is terrible. The team, bathrooms, everything. 11 season of season tickets and this is awful. #baseball,” @mick_dermott tweeted.

According to the Cubs’ statement, two upper deck bathrooms went down “temporarily,” forcing fans to hit the lower deck, where fans were “already experiencing issues with long wait times.”

“This is out of control #WrigleyField no bathrooms @Cubs,” @justinbaumann tweeted along with a picture of the long lines.

The Cubs admitted that they “missed the mark” Sunday night and were not prepared to handle the 35,000 fans that showed up.

Fans were apparently even taking drastic measures because the lines were so long.

A fan who remained anonymous told Deadspin that fans were resorting to makeshift urinals and “peeing against walls in the concourse.”

“@Cubs this is how bad the bathroom situation is @ Wrigley….” @cubbies2014 tweeted along with a picture of one of the makeshift urinals.

And the bathrooms weren’t the only complaint fans had from Opening Night at Wrigley Field.

“@Cubs this is the worst experience at #Wrigley ever. No food venders. No bathrooms. Terrible ushers. Total amateur hour. Do Better,” @InFirstClass tweeted.

“We want to apologize to our fans for the inconveneince tonight,”Green said in the statement. “Moving forward we plan to supplement the existing restrooms with additional portable units and will continue to monitor wait times.”

To make matters worse, the Cubs lost to the Cardinals 3-0.
