Dolphins best fit for Favre

No longer are the Brett Favre rumors "all rumor," as the retired quarterback said last week. He definitely wants to return to the NFL this season, and he might not do so with the Green Bay Packers.

So where will Favre be playing next?

Those who predict NFC North rivals Chicago or Minnesota are in need of a brain scan. The Packers will not allow that to happen.

The most logical answer is the Miami Dolphins.

Start with the Dolphins' new boss, Bill Parcells, a guy who despises young quarterbacks and so embraces veterans that he recycled Drew Bledsoe in Dallas. Next, look at the team's QB depth chart -- Josh McCown, John Beck and Chad Henne -- and it's a shallow pool.

Finally, the Dolphins need to trade defensive end Jason Taylor, and the Packers covet Taylor.

In a Miami Herald column by Greg Cote, the headline says it best: "Getting Favre makes sense for Dolphins."

True, the Dolphins were 1-15 last season, and Favre prefers to play for a Super Bowl contender, but both sides need each other.

"From Favre's perspective, there also is some logic," Cote wrote. "This is a team that spent its past two No. 1 picks on a receiver and a blocker. A team with two solid running backs. ... And a team whose fans will regard you as a civic hero if you win six games and a saint if you win eight."

TRADING PLACES -- Favre has not filed retirement papers with the league, so he's an active player with three years left on his contract. If he comes back and the Packers don't want him, they must trade or release him. In that case, they would deal him.

If it's not Miami for Favre, here are his other possible destinations, in predicted order: Tampa Bay, Carolina, Baltimore, Atlanta, New York Jets and Kansas City.

MORE FAVRE -- Because he cried his eyes out when he retired in early March, Favre's decision to come back has angered some people.

And that angers Gregg Doyel of CBSSports.com, who wrote: "Favre has been scolded enough and ridiculed enough and mocked enough, and enough is enough. Surely there's a reason for so much negativity, so I searched. And searched. And came up empty.

"Favre has never been arrested for DUI. Never been accused of domestic violence. Never been caught using steroids or HGH. Never mooned the crowd. Never punched a teammate or stepped on an opponent. Never walked off the field while the game was in progress. Never fathered multiple kids with multiple women.

"... The Packers are mad at Favre for changing his mind. Which means the Packers are just like everybody else. They're wrong."

BERMAN BOMBAST -- It's too bad ESPN doesn't let Erin Andrews do play-by-play of the entire Home Run Derby. But, again Monday, we were stuck with Chris Berman's extra-loud homer calls.

"Back, back, back, back, back, this one is ... oh, look out, fellas!" Berman boomed as the Florida Marlins' Dan Uggla blasted a baseball over Yankee Stadium's left-field wall.

Let's go back, back, back ... to Erin Andrews for another sideline interview as soon as possible.
