Ex-BYU star Jimmer Fredette signs with Spurs
Had the Spurs drafted Jimmer Fredette in 2011, when the former Brigham Young star was the consensus national college player of the year, there would've been talk of the San Antonio River Walk being renamed the Jimmer Walk. Four years later, "Jimmermania" has long since subsided, but Fredette should have a chance to win an NBA title with the Spurs, who announced Wednesday they've signed the sharp-shooting guard.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Drafted 10th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks, Fredette was promptly traded to the Sacramento Kings. He's also played for the Chicago Bulls and, most recently, the New Orleans Pelicans in four nondescript seasons in which he's averaged 6.1 points and 13.7 minutes per game.
A career 38.1-percent shooter from 3-point range, Fredette will give the deep Spurs another shooter off the bench. As a senior at BYU in 2010-11, the Jimmer led the nation in scoring with 28.9 ppg.
