Fishing Report

■ LAKE MEAD -- The Nevada Department of Wildlife planted trout on Tuesday and will stock fish again next Tuesday at Crawdad Cove and near the Hemenway fishing point. Striped bass action has slowed, though some anglers are finding success while fishing shad imitations, near schools of fish, suspended at depths near 100 feet or more. Others are finding larger stripers cruising shallower water following the trout plants. Trout-imitating swimbaits can be productive.

■ LAKE MOHAVE -- Wind and rain have turned away many anglers, but those who have ventured forth have found success for catfish and striped bass, though the bite has slowed. The NDOW trout-stocking schedule calls for plants at Placer and Powerline coves on Tuesday. At Willow Beach, anglers have found good fishing for rainbow trout following the weekly plants. PowerBait, various hardware and worms have been productive. Super Dupers, Panther Martins and Little Jakes all can catch fish in the clear-water fishery.

■ URBAN PONDS -- Anglers who receive new fishing rods for Christmas might want to test them by fishing for rainbow trout. The NDOW planted fish in each of the area's four urban ponds on Tuesday and is scheduled to plant fish again on Jan. 4. A variety of small lures and spinners, PowerBait and worms will catch the fish. The wildlife agency reminds anglers the limit is three fish and fishing licenses are required for anglers 12 years of age and older.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Unseasonably warm temperatures have melted the ice, and the roads are muddy, but that means open water for hardy anglers who are willing to wet lines on area reservoirs.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Rainy conditions and warm daytime temperatures followed by nighttime snows have resulted in slushy conditions. Exact ice conditions are unknown, so double-check before venturing onto the ice. Anglers always can fish from the dock.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Ice conditions are unsafe. Anglers might find open water near the dam.
