FISHING REPORT

■ LAKE MEAD -- Anglers have had fair success near Hemenway Harbor and Boulder Beach on nonwindy days. Anglers report stripers are hitting light on cut anchovies. Waiting for soft strikes with your fishing rod in hand is the only way to connect with fish. The average size has been from 1 to 3 pounds. Fishing has been fair to good in the Overton Arm near Echo Bay. Anglers continue to catch fish between Stewarts Point and the Meadows.

■ LAKE MOHAVE -- Fishing for catfish, stripers and trout has been slow near Cottonwood Cove. However, diligent bass anglers are catching healthy largemouth and smallmouth bass. Western Outdoor News had a bass tournament Saturday with a total of 77 fish caught by 20 teams. Two teams tied for the largest fish with bucket mouths that each weighed in at 5.94 pounds. With a recent habitat project conducted Friday, fishing should continue to improve.

■ URBAN PONDS -- Trout action is still fair, yet anglers are noticing a decline in fish numbers. Fishing at Sunset Park and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City is fair to good. Lorenzi and Floyd Lamb parks are slow for trout, though some anglers have found success with a small crappie jig fished below the surface. The Nevada Department of Wildlife has scheduled its first seasonal catfish plant for next week.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Trout fishing has been fair and should improve throughout the month. Both planters and 14- to 16-inch carry-overs are taking a variety of baits, including PowerBait, worms, spinners and flies. Most anglers are fishing from boats and float tubes; however, there is good shore access from the dams. The first road south of the management area has been bladed and is well maintained for travel.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- The reservoir is completely free of ice. Anglers have been catching trout weighing more than a pound. Orange PowerBait and flies are catching fish just below the surface.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Anglers report success for largemouth bass from 8 to 12 inches. Trout are active and looking for food.
