Fishing Report
■ LAKE MEAD -- Action continues to be good for smallies and largemouth bass. Top-water lures are taking fish when thrown from the shoreline or boat. Drop shot rigs have also been catching fish. Striped bass have been taking cut anchovies in the Vegas Wash and Overton arms. For catfish, go to the bottom with a Carolina rig baited up with stink bait, shrimp, chicken livers or night crawlers. They'll hit during the day, but nighttime is usually better.
■ LAKE MOHAVE -- Fishing remains fair to good at Cottonwood Cove. Catfish are hitting bait fished on the bottom, and largemouth and smallmouth bass are taking various lures and plastics. Striper fishing has been slow. Trout fishing is fair after plants each Friday.
■ URBAN PONDS -- Anglers have been catching catfish, though action slows in the weeks between plants. Bluegills have been providing good action at Floyd Lamb Park. They should be working their way closer to shore to spawn. The limit at these ponds is three fish, and using any fish or parts of a fish for bait is illegal.
■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Windy conditions have made fishing difficult. Olive bead head Woolly Buggers fished near the bottom were producing results early in the week. Cold-water temperatures have kept action for largemouth bass action from heating up.
■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Tiger trout are taking small silver and gold spinners and spoons at the north end. Anglers are catching a few brown trout, some up to 15 inches long. Rainbows are hitting PowerBait, night crawlers and marshmallows and spinners.
■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- A fisherman reeled in an 8-pound largemouth bass last weekend, as the bucket mouths and crappie have turned on in this Lincoln County reservoir. Crappie are taking small gitzits in root beer and other dark colors. Rainbow trout are hitting spinners, PowerBait, night crawlers and marshmallows.
