Fishing Report, April 4

■ LAKE MEAD — Anglers are finding a lot of shad through the back of Vegas Wash. Some are using the fish as bait, but the striper bite remains slow. Despite that, the largemouth and smallmouth bass have provided fishermen with good action.

Some anglers have had luck fishing in the Callville Bay area or near Crawdad Cove. The bass are starting to move into the shallows to nest, and that should give shore anglers a chance to reel in some nice fish. Crankbaits, spinnerbaits and drop shots have been catching fish.

■ LAKE MOHAVE — Fishing pressure has been light for striped bass throughout the lake, though Willow Beach has given up a few fish in the 8-pound range. Luck has been with the anglers fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass. Look for bedding activity in the shallows near rocks and other various structure types. Plastic worms, tube baits, crawdads and other plastics in light colors should produce fish.

■ URBAN PONDS — Following a pair of generous fish plants late in the season, the waters at area ponds are teeming with rainbow trout. These fish are actively feeding and should provide good action for patient anglers. A group of kids had success recently with Berkley Power Eggs in yellow and orange colors.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — Dacey Reservoir is producing rainbows in the 12- to 16-inch range for anglers using flies and spinners. Cold Springs and Haymeadow are giving up smaller rainbows, and the action is fast. The reservoirs’ upper ends are closed through Aug. 15. Dacey is an artificial-lure-only water, and the limit is one rainbow trout. Campground water is turned off at this time.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Trout fishing has been good much of the past week. Anglers have had success with small spinners or with night crawlers with a bit of mini-marshmallow.

Fish are biting along the shoreline and near the fishing dock. Most trout are in the 11- to 13-inch class. The campground is open.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — Fishing has been fantastic this past week, according to U.S. Forest ranger Ben Johnson. Most anglers are catching their limits quickly, some in less than three hours

Spinners, small lures and night crawlers fished with a bit of marshmallow will catch rainbow trout as long as 13 inches.
