FISHING REPORT

■ LAKE MEAD — Spinnows have been the lure of choice for many striper anglers in recent weeks. This lure has been productive when jigging in up to 60 feet of water. Those fishing the backs of coves also have had success with largemouth bass. A variety of swim baits have been effective for these fish. The best fishing is found during the early morning and evening.

■ LAKE MOHAVE — Anglers have had success fishing out of Cottonwood Cove. Just to the south and on the Arizona side of the lake, largemouth bass have been hitting on just about any crayfish imitation. These bass have been hanging back in the coves in 20 to 30 feet of water. Just north of Cottonwood, anglers have been catching striped bass while throwing cut anchovies. Those fishing from the shore at Willow Beach have had success using AC Plugs and other trout imitations, with a few stripers pushing past the 20-pound mark.

■ URBAN PONDS — Fishing action at Sunset Park and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City is best in the early morning and after sunset. Anglers are catching bluegill and a few catfish. The City of Las Vegas has closed the ponds at Floyd Lamb Park to fishing following the deaths of several park ducks. The ponds will remain closed while officials determine the cause of death.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — Summer rains have slowed things. Area roads can be muddy following periods of storm activity, and the Nevada Department of Wildlife is warning visitors to use caution when driving. Anglers also should be mindful of thunderstorm activity and adjust their activities accordingly. Weedy conditions common to the summer months make things difficult for boaters. Bass are taking most lures and nightcrawlers. Trout action has slowed with the heat, but fishing can be good in the early morning and after sundown.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Recent thunderstorms have added water to the reservoir but made for turbid conditions. Fishing has slowed as a result. Rainbow trout still are taking nightcrawlers and PowerBait and are averaging 11 to 13 inches in length. Anglers continue to catch bass on nightcrawlers and lures.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — Water levels have risen slightly due to local rain activity. The shoreline has gotten weedy, but anglers are catching crappie, bass and trout while using worms, small spinners and jigs.
