ESPN will televise MW title game for next 5 years

One of the two main ESPN networks will televise the Mountain West football championship game the next five seasons.

ESPN2 will broadcast this year’s game on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 4:30 p.m. PST.

CBS had owned the rights to the game, but declined earlier this month to pick up the option.

“We are appreciative of the growing relationship with our partners at ESPN,” Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson said in a statement. “The addition of our annual football championship game to a full slate of regular-season programming across the ESPN networks will provide an exciting segue into our many ESPN-affiliated bowl games and the College Football Playoff.”

The conference title game is played between the winners of the Mountain and West divisions at the site of the team with the highest College Football Playoff ranking.
