Four homers back Castro’s stellar pitching in 51s’ win

Fabio Castro pitched eight shutout innings Friday to lead the 51s to an 8-1 Pacific Coast League win over the Memphis Redbirds at AutoZone Park in Memphis, Tenn.

Castro (2-0) limited the Redbirds (18-15) to three hits and two walks and struck out five as Las Vegas (14-21) won its third straight. Jon Jay's leadoff double in the fourth was the lone Memphis hit through the first seven innings.

J.P. Arencibia, Brett Harper, Buck Coats and Kyle Phillips each homered for the 51s, and Arencibia, Harper, Phillips and Randy Ruiz each had two of Las Vegas' 10 hits.

Harper's team-leading 10th homer of the season, a two-out, two-run shot, capped the 51s' three-run fourth inning. Arencibia hit a three-run homer in the sixth.

Redbirds starter Clayton Mortensen (2-3) gave up seven runs on nine hits in five-plus innings. He struck out three.

Memphis scored in the ninth off reliever Sean Stidfole, with Javier Brito's sacrifice fly following three straight singles to open the inning.
