The $70,000 Nevada Open golf tournament presented by Simplot in Mesquite Dec. 15-17 had everything ranging from threatening weather to a climactic finish.

Brady Schnell of Phoenix and Steve Saunders of Albuquerque finished the regulation 54 holes with identical three-round scores of 200 prompting a three-hole playoff. Schnell had a final-round 66, while Saunders carded a 65 creating the playoff at the CasaBlanca Golf Course and capping a tournament that also included play at the Palms Golf Course.

The 25 year-old Schnell need a birdie to end the shootout. He collected $10,000 for the victory, while Saunders picked up $6,500 for his runner-up finish.

The Nevada Open presented by Simplot featured a field of 184 players from several states.

The Mesquite golf spectacular proved to be quite a weekend for Arizona considering that Greg Bruckner, also of Phoenix, captured the Nevada Senior Open with a two-round score of 131 earlier in the week.

Golf Summerlin celebrates holidays with generous deals

Golf Summerlin says happy holidays with generous deals and giveaways through Sunday. The holiday promotion is available to all Golf Summerlin Loyalty cardholders. Loyalty cards are available for $20 at Highland Falls and Palm Valley or $10 at Eagle Crest and offer a full host of perks throughout the year.

As part of the holiday promotion, cardholders can tee off at Highland Falls or Palm Valley for just $40 per player plus enjoy a complimentary lunch and beer.

In addition to the discounted green fees, Golf Summerlin will give away a new Callaway driver each day through Sunday. The winners are selected by random drawing from the pool of entries collected throughout the promotion, which began Nov. 29.

Rio Secco to award $1 million for hole-in-one

One lucky golfer can soon become $1 million richer by acing the seventh hole at Rio Secco Golf Club. The Rio Secco Million Dollar Hole promotion offers 12 golfers three shots at recording a hole-in-one on Rio Secco's seventh hole, and, if successful, a prize of $1 million. The main event will be held Feb. 12 and qualifying continues through Dec. 31.

Golfers have two ways to qualify for the main event. A witnessed hole-in-one on hole 7 through Dec. 31 automatically qualifies golfers for the finale. In addition, three golfers will be selected in monthly drawings to participate in the main event. Drawing entries include all registered paid green fees from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, and additional entries for participating in the hit-the-green promotion with a minimum $20 stake.

Par 4 buys Silverstone Golf Club for $3.1 million

Par 4 Golf Management has purchased Silverstone Golf Club for $3.1 million. This is the first golf course sale in Las Vegas since 2007.

Silverstone Golf Club offers public play and private membership on a course that features rye grass fairways, bent grass greens and the longest par-5 hole in Nevada. The 27-hole golf course is located in the northwest part of the valley at 5600 Cupp Drive.

In addition to owning and operating Silverstone, Par 4 Golf Management operates Badlands Golf Club in Las Vegas and Primm Valley Golf Club in Primm.
