Graney extends streak as state’s top sports writer

Las Vegas Review-Journal sports columnist Ed Graney was chosen Nevada Sportswriter of the Year for 2012, the fourth straight year he has been honored by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

Graney, 46, has worked at the Review-Journal since May 2006. Before that, he spent 20 years at the San Diego Union-Tribune as a sports writer and columnist.

A native of Laguna Beach, Calif., Graney is a voter in The Associated Press Top 25 men's college basketball poll and is a past winner of Top 10 recognition for sports columns by The Associated Press Sports Editors.

Graney lives in Summerlin with his wife and two children.

51s announcer Russ Langer, 50, was named Nevada Sportscaster of the Year for the sixth straight year and eighth time since 2003. He also won the award once in New Mexico. Langer began calling UNLV football this past season.

Peter King of Sports Illustrated and Dan Patrick of NBC Sports Network were named national Sportswriter and Sportscaster of the Year.

ESPN analyst Dick Vitale and author/sports columnist Mitch Albom of the Detroit Free Press were named to the association's Hall of Fame.

The NSSA's annual awards program and Hall of Fame induction ceremony is June 8 and 9 in Salisbury, N.C.
