Haynes’ 4-RBI day hands 51s third loss in row
April 8, 2007 - 9:00 pm
Nathan Haynes had three hits and drove in four runs Saturday as the Salt Lake Bees handed the 51s their third straight loss to open the Pacific Coast League season with a 7-3 decision at Franklin Covey Stadium in Salt Lake City.
After suffering a pair of one-run losses Thursday and Friday nights, the 51s fell behind 3-0 and 5-2 on Saturday and never seriously threatened the Bees.
Haynes drove in the first of his four runs with a groundout in a three-run second inning off Las Vegas starter Joe Mays (0-1). He then drove in his second and third runs in the fourth inning with the second of his two singles. Haynes capped his three-hit, four-RBI game with a run-scoring double in the Bees' two-run sixth.
Las Vegas managed just seven hits off Salt Lake starting pitcher Matt Hensley (1-0) and two relievers. Delwyn Young had two of the seven, both singles.
Sergio Garcia, Mitch Jones and Tomas Perez had doubles for the 51s, who conclude the four-game series against the Bees with a 1:05 p.m. PDT contest today.
Perez, James Loney and Raphael Freeman drove in a run apiece for Las Vegas.
