HORSE RACING

TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds and up

Gold Rush Trail - Was rushed into the lead last time and faded late; his preference is to sit just off the pacesetters and grind it out.

Take a Chance - Tepid chalk ran miserably in last, but his race two back is fast enough to beat these; long shot rider Agapito is up.

Long Shot - El Salvador

Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $34,000, Maiden claiming $75,000, 3-year-olds

Dart River - Runs for a claiming price first time since his debut effort; tactical speed to protect his inside post around 2-turns.

Big Motor - If Talamo doesn't win, he gives his horses every chance to finish in the money; O'Neill has put him on two winners already.

Long Shot - Headcoach

Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Holly's Gold - She didn't beat much last time, but she did it for laughs; Spawr is one of the few who can claim from Mullins and do well.

Gotta Go Gal - Ran miserably as a beaten favorite in last at NoCal; Miller finds a soft spot where is she rebounds she can be tough.

Long Shot - Leslie Lill

Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $33,000, Maiden claiming $62,500, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Itsallgreektou - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; she has speed and with today's class relief, could be tough.

Flower Fusion - Ran well considering Sadler rarely cranks up on his FTS; if she improves a smidgeon in her second start, she can win.

Long Shot - Exploited Dream

Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $55,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds

Unusual Beauty - Graduated at a ridiculous 3/5 odds in MSW last time; has the pedigree to handle turf today in her grass debut.

Summer News - Logical chalk gets big time class relief from an open stakes for this Cal-bred turf route; Talamo offers a weight break too.

Long Shot - Tiz A Blend

Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up

Elusive No More - One thing about a race this bad, having the early lead is usually a big advantage; suspect Potts will send hard.

Closet Trader - The fact that the main contenders are all dead late closers, will make them more vulnerable; sits for one run.

Long Shot - Unbridled Harmony

Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 8 feet), $100,000 Las Cienegas Handicap, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

River's Prayer - She may be the quickest sprinter, turf or dirt, in SoCal; there doesn't appear to be any who want a piece of her early.

Indian Flare - She'll be favored due to the Frankel-Flores connection; she'll stalk the pace but needs River's Prayer to stop running.

Long Shot - Wild Storm

Race 8 - 1 1/4 miles, Purse $55,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up

Tice - Has run a number of good races, without winning, since being gelded; chance to upset a Frankel short priced chalk in the pick 6.

Tioga Junction - Not sure if he wants to go this far, but it's the same question for all of them; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.

Long Shot - Men Only

Race 9 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $46,000, 3-year-olds

Silver Light - I never mind a parking lot post coming down the hillside turf course; surface switch make wake up a disappointing colt.

Smart of War - Good turf debut down the hill last time out; Garcia adding blinkers on, like Agapito riding my live long shots.

Long Shot - California Flag

Best Bet - Holly's Gold (race 3)

Santa Anita Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 20/4/$25.80; Long Shots, 10/1/$27.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.00

Santa Anita Totals - 1,317/346/$2,257.60; Long Shots, 659/73/$995.80; Best Bets, 76/31/$125.20
