HORSE RACING
June 14, 2007 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), $75,000 Great Lady M., Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Fan Time - Tactical speed to sit just off the flank of speedball River's Prayer; ran very well in a KY Derby week sod stakes.
River's Prayer - Logical chalk has excelled down the hillside course in Arcadia; she has little experience on Inglewood turf.
Long Shot - No Lullaby
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $21,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Eagle Ridge - Making his first start for Periban who is taking the blinkers off; like that bugboy Talamo is taking the call.
Cryptomite - Tepid chalk switching from barns, from Mullins to Lewis; she's taking the blinkers off too, will try to relax.
Long Shot - Awesome Graf
Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $44,000, Claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Lyrical Sound - Small edge in a very difficult heat to handicap; she was closing well last time while facing better company.
Sweet Ambition - Winless in nine turf starts, she'll be value and I like that Nakatani is riding; best stride will come late.
Long Shot - Gold On Gossamer
Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Mighty Fine Wine - Among those with experience, her limited resume looks best; showed high cheese in last before tiring late.
I Dig Her - FTS from the O'Neill barn gets leading rider Baze; she is not burning up the work tab, but has win early pedigree.
Long Shot - Clever Lady
Race 5 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $39,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds
Luberon - Has run two even races on turf, now is dropping in for a claiming price; Pedroza can sit a trip and grind it out late.
Saintly Son - Interesting Mullins drop down from the rail; has excellent speed and the wood, with the turf rail out 15 feet.
Long Shot - Roosevelt
Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds
Battle Too - Just missed last time in a better than looked effort; not thrilled with Garcia's riding, but this horse fits.
Mr. Big - Made a big move in debut, but ran out of gas late; Shirreffs babies typical improve with racing, expect better.
Long Shot - Tiztime
Race 7 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $49,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
One On the House - Typically I don't like the rail leaving the chute; this guy got such a passive ride in last, will improve.
General Bueno - Sharp MSW win at a paltry 2/5 odds; the Mig can sit still, let the others go, and find his best stride late.
Long Shot - Light of the World
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $11,000, Claiming $8,000, 4-year-olds and up
Garfield Park - Set a suicidal pace down the hillside course last time we saw him; takes an enormous class drop to face easier.
Largo - Making his third start off a 2-month hiatus; has shown he does not need the lead to run his best, has some back class.
Long Shot - Lead Stealer
Best Bet - One On the House (race 7)
Hollywood Wednesday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/4/$32.00; Long Shots, 8/2/$15.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Totals - 635/147/$948.00; Long Shots, 311/43/$448.60; Best Bets, 37/16/$63.60
