TODAY AT OAK TREE AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $15,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
1 Racketeer - Sliding down the claiming ladder to the lowest level of his career; old vet is running out of options.
6 Joe Carl - Claimed by Dan Hendricks off a gutsy win; has the back class where a repeat race is very doable.
Long Shot - 3 Fiery Trippi
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 D'Elegance - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; she's a Bob Baffert cull too.
3 Ride a Wave - Third start off an 8-month hiatus could be her best; value with a low-percentage rider in Felipe Valdez.
Long Shot - 7 Princess Beau K
Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, $55,000 Louis R. Rowan, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Minute Limit - Didn't get enough pace to close into last out; lost to the chalk, but I sense she can turn the tables.
1 Mother Ruth - Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry and this is the longer odds filly; saves ground and fires late.
Long Shot - 4 Silver Swallow
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Usurp - Ran well in last off a 2-month hiatus; dropping down to the lowest class of his career, chance to dominate.
3 All Man - Big rider switch to Joel Rosario; tactical speed to sit a good trip and grind it out late.
Long Shot - 1 Star Nicholas
Race 5 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $40,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
9 Blue Maiden - No secret when even money chalk in U.S. debut; faced much tougher foes in group races in Europe.
3 Hemera - Was a head behind the favorite last time out; has underachieved but now gets the great Rafael Bejarano.
Long Shot - Magic Launch
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
7 Mayakoba Mesa - Wouldn't know she was 51/1 in debut with the way she finished; big chance with logical improvement.
5 Caipirinha - Tepid chalk in a wide-open affair; not sure what she faced in NoCal, but was heavily favored in debut.
Long Shot - 11 Canadian Pride
Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles, $250,000 Oak Leaf, Fillies, 2-year-olds
6 Tell a Kelly - What a bargain as a $45K Keeneland buy; dead-late closer figures to improve as the races get longer.
1 Izshelegal - Exciting finish in the Landaluce in her career debut; she has regressed, but should have room to improve.
Long Shot - 4 Alienation
Race 8 - 1 1/4 miles (turf), $250,000 Clement L. Hirsch, 3-year-olds and up
1 Champ Pegasus - Like the ground saving trip in a much-tougher-than-looks stakes; proven pedigree to run all day.
6 Bourbon Bay - Has won 4 straight and is a deserving favorite; his best races have come in Arcadia though.
Long Shot - 7 Falcon Rock
Race 9 - 6 furlongs, Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
11 California Nectar - Appears head and shoulders above the horses with experience; exits fast races for this class.
8 Zenidekka - Was heavily bet in debut and ran poorly; Neil Drysdale adding blinkers on, watch the tote for clues.
Long Shot - 1 Going for a Spin
Best Bet - 6 Tell a Kelly (race 7)
Oak Tree Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 20/6/$34.20; Long Shots, 10/1/$5.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Oak Tree Totals - 53/15/$86.40; Long Shots, 25/4/$32.40; Best Bets, 3/0/$0
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #8 Regal Ransom (2/1) in race 9 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Red Desire ran third at Belmont Park paying $4.00 to show. Stats - 164/118/$891.80
