HORSE RACING
August 5, 2010 - 11:00 pm
TODAY AT DEL MAR
By Richard Eng
Post Time 4 p.m.
Race 1 - 5 furlongs (turf, rail at 14 feet), Purse $59,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
Tropic Storm - He's been away nearly 2 years; tons of back class, it's easier to come back in a sprint race.
Amazombie - Dead late closer is always at the mercy of pace; he'll hope for a speed duel to close into.
Long Shot - Sky Victor
Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Russian River - Interesting private purchase by Little Red Feather; Mike Mitchell has been sitting on her, until now.
Miss Picaboo - A. C. Avila took this filly from Mike Mitchell; that's usually a bad idea, but Avila barn has been hot.
Long Shot - American Story
Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 14 feet), Purse $30,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
The Great Atlantic - Joel Rosario had choices and opted to ride for Mark Glatt; should handle the stretch out.
Melbisha - It's Joel Rosario off, Rafael Bejarano up; ground saving trip, she'll be grinding fast late.
Long Shot - Foxy Jade
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Mo Cheese - This race could be dominated by horses returning from layoffs; been away 18 months, has back class.
Princess Beau K - Logical chalk must run her race of two back to win; second start off a 2-month hiatus.
Long Shot - Storm'n Marisa
Race 5 - 1 mile, Purse $19,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Wood Art - Big class dropper from Robert Troeger should have enough left to handle these; been better on synthetics.
Look to the Sky - Claimed by Peter Miller and prepped for 2 months; figures to be fresh and fit for this.
Long Shot - Twodollarstowin
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
Quintons Flash - Claimed by John Sadler and spotted nicely to graduate; ground saving trip under Victor Espinoza.
Uncle Greg - Jack Carava takes the blinkers off for this; he claimed this guy specifically with Del Mar in mind.
Long Shot - D'oro Dancer
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, $150,000 Sorrento, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Final Mesa - Talented shipper from Wesley Ward; won all 3 career starts, 2 over synthetics and 2 stakes.
Izshelegal - Was finishing fast into a bunch of tiring fillies; was it illusion or was she really motoring?
Long Shot - Dawnie Macho
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Cenizo - Julio Canani has been quietly heating up at Del Mar; beaten favorite will offer solid value tonight.
Pretty Kinzie - Logical chalk regressed off a solid win two back; suspect she has enough gas to rebound in here.
Long Shot - Sweet and Jazzy
Best Bet - Final Mesa (race 7)
