HORSE RACING

TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up

Lowther Street - Two dumb rides in a row have hurt his win chances; he needs to be settled on for one run.

Aitcho - Typical John Shirreffs baby is improving with racing experience; logical chalk off a good effort.

Long Shot - Deacon's Cat

Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Optional claiming $80,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Miss Dolce - John Sadler wins with few FTS making her debut win all the better; catch me if you can.

Life by R R - Was given a test drive in debut, then unleashed by Dan Hendricks in last; high ceiling also.

Long Shot - Deeveetee

Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $25,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

If Not for You - Rare chance to get a price on a Rafael Bejarano-Doug O'Neill charge; saves all the ground.

Moscow Rising - Has shown turf ability and now stretches back out in distance; will sit closer to the pace.

Long Shot - Warren's Appeal

Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Suarez - Of the fillies with experience, she is the one who shows some talent; plays catch me if you can.

Spoolish - FTS from the Darrell Vienna barn; he is sneaky good with FTS so watch the tote board for clues.

Long Shot - Strapless

Race 5 - 7 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up

Idaho Joe - Taking a huge class drop to face these; exits a key race, doesn't have to be much horse.

Twin Turbo - Rallied into a slow pace in last; like the turn back in distance for this elongated sprint.

Long Shot - Brooker

Race 6 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $56,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Kyniska - Hard earned win in U.S. debut for Bobby Frankel; suspect there is more in the gas tank.

Caprice - Exits a minor stakes for this much softer spot; easy to envision a Gomez-Bejarano stretch duel.

Long Shot - Kayd Kodaun

Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, $70,000 Kalookan Queen, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Baroness Thatcher - She turns back in distance; Garrett Gomez will sit a trip and run the speed down late.

Dearest Trickski - Speedball has two issues in here; tons of early speed to duel and distance limitations.

Long Shot - Highland Torree

Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

Game A.P. - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this bottom rung; his race two back would beat these.

Royal Seal - Logical chalk has shown a lot of hang so far; he'll need a fast pace to do his best late.

Long Shot - River Lord

Best Bet - Miss Dolce (race 2)

Santa Anita Monday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/2/$11.20; Long Shots, 9/3/$33.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Totals - 67/16/$106.00; Long Shots, 32/5/$52.40; Best Bets, 4/2/$6.60
