HORSE RACING

TODAY AT DEL MAR

By Richard Eng

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

Richly Endowed - Ran OK in first start off the claim for Art Sherman; at this bottom level, the less career starts the better.

Toppler - He has some speed and has finished in the money 6 times; I'l like to see Martin Garcia gun him to the front.

Long Shot - Isle of Japan

Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds

Honor Your Wager - Bill Morey off the claim is winning at a sizzling 32 percent; is well spotted to take advantage of these.

Afleet's Design - Maiden claiming graduate shouldn't find this modest group of winners too intimidating; Bejarano saves ground.

Long Shot - Cotati

Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Suralova - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; like that Bejarano legs up for the money shot.

Perfect Vintage - Dead late closer must root for a fast early pace; her last race was fast enough to win at this low class.

Long Shot - Miss Anziayan

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Claiming $62,500, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Barbara's Love - Speedball drops in class to the level she last won at; she figures to clear and speed has been holding up.

Pure and Simple - Hasn't been seen since beating tougher 3-months ago; she has tactical speed and Tyler Baze to sit a trip.

Long Shot - Nook and Granny

Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 7 feet), Purse $53,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

The Unusual One - Has excellent pedigree to make his turf debut; note that Barry Abrams was able to hire Garrett Gomez.

Del Conte - Tepid chalk from the suddenly bubbling Bob Baffert barn; tries turf and route for the first time, we'll see.

Long Shot - Vintage Dave

Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Oh the Joy - Taken by Gary Stute who has a sneaky good 28 percent win percentage off the claim; should be a monster price.

Sunset Tijuana - Logical chalk due to a big class drop and the classy connections of Garrett Gomez and Mike Mitchell.

Long Shot - Schill

Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 7 feet), Purse $65,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Brendolyn - Sneaky long shot is a hard knocker and consistent; Joel Rosario can save ground and try to break thru in the lane.

Eissoai - Bobby Frankel has an uncoupled entry in here so caveat emptor; tries blinkers on after lugging in badly last time.

Long Shot - Rosangela

Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds

Got Alot Going - Ran a winning race for this level last time; big rider switch to Rafael Bejarano for the money shot.

Catalina Fog - Speedy sort has bumped heads with the chalk, but neither has gotten there first; Tyler Baze takes the reins.

Long Shot - Soul Giant

Best Bet - Richly Endowed (race 1)

Del Mar Wednesday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/7/$38.20; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.00

Del Mar Totals - 495/122/$833.00; Long Shots, 258/36/$445.00; Best Bets, 31/9/$40.20
