HORSE RACING

TODAY AT DEL MAR

By Richard Eng

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $53,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

Stathy - Ran great in his career debut under Julien Leparoux; Rafael Bejarano takes over, repeat race may be enough to win.

Don't Forget Muq - FTS from Frank Monteleone has a long sequence of bullet works;

Long Shot - Already Wild

Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $53,000, Claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds

Storm Brave - Speedy sort beat many of these last time; has shown in the past he can win without the lead, Gomez rides.

Topper Shopper - Claimed by Bill Spawr off a decent effort against tougher; the last time he ran for this price he won.

Long Shot - Professnl Courtesy

Race 3 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 14 feet), Purse $46,000, Claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

Sacred Light - Ran evenly last time when boxed in along the rail; slight class drop and Bejarano can cause improvement.

The Big One - Just missed in last chasing a lone speed in Wild Buddy; he has a ton of back class to repeat his effort.

Long Shot - Soupy

Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Thunder and Ice - The most dangerous play in racing is lone speed; Brian Koriner drops her in class, will control the pace.

In Daddy's Honor - Glen Stute adds the blinkers on to sharpen her speed; her last work was a bullet, maybe with the hood?

Long Shot - Stately Appeal

Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $33,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up

Foul Play - He's won three straight and Jeff Mullins keeps her in the same class; tactical speed to hold her rail position.

Jack's Kid - He hasn't started much for a 6-YO, but he's found a home at this class level; tactical speed to sit a trip.

Long Shot - Seven Secrets

Race 6 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $53,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Montana Fields - Exits what will be a key race with Stardom Bound an unlucky second; was favored over that one, ran big too.

Grey Chatelaine - FTS from the Craig Dollase barn; there are 9 FTS so you'll have an edge over me, watch the tote for clues.

Long Shot - Scarbourough Fair

Race 7 - 1 mile, Purse $51,000, Claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds and up

Hockey the General - Good return off a 13-month hiatus; if he worked out the kinks for Bob Baffert, he could fire big today.

Scat Thief - Claimed by Mike Mitchell and spotted nicely for a quick ROI; he has a lot of experience going around 2-turns.

Long Shot - Super Strut

Race 8 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 14 feet), $400,000 John C. Mabee Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

Foxysox - Second start off a 2-month hiatus; she has underachieved and part is she's kind of lazy, Bejarano must keep after her.

Black Mamba - She finally won one with a perfect trip in the Beverly Hills; key is if Garrett Gomez can do it again with her.

Long Shot - Ransom Captive

Race 9 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Dizzy Up the Girl - Ran a winning race for this class level in last; Jeff Mullins adds the blinkers on for the money shot.

If Not for You - She ran big off the drop in class from MSW to $25k; she could sit a perfect trip shadowing the favorite.

Long Shot - Tizzalating
