HORSE RACING
June 28, 2008 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time noon
Race 1 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $62,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Sleepin In - Speedball will be aided by the temporary turf rail out 10 feet; the race shape appears to favor her too.
Solar Miss - Logical chalk draws a parking lot post, which today will hurt her by a couple lengths; must not dilly dally.
Long Shot - Gloria Goodbody
Race 2 - 7 furlongs, Purse $62,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Star Time - Bob Baffert babies typically improve a lot the second time out; is bred to be a good one, no distance limits.
Ksar Ghilane - Beaten chalk stopped like he got a flat tire on the I-15; like the turn back in distance for this Frankel.
Long Shot - Victor's Cry
Race 3 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $44,000, Claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up
Carman - He is a good example of a professional maiden who finally figured things out; the race shape flatters his style.
Giovanni - Unlike the first turf sprint where there is no early pace, there is plenty of gas in here; class relief and Gomez.
Long Shot - Kingdom Come
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, $100,000 Landaluce, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Cosmic Queen - She crushed many of these last time; the key is if she improves a step, if so, she's the most likely winner.
Trifecta King - Was second best to Cosmic Queen in debut, then she improved to graduate; 2-YO can improve by leaps and bounds.
Long Shot - Emmy Darling
Race 5 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 10 feet), $250,000 American Handicap, 3-year-olds and up
Daytona - Stubbed his toe at the Fair Grounds, but otherwise has been unbeatable; proven to be formidable in the stretch.
Heroi Do Bafra - Bobby Frankel has an uncoupled entry in here, and this is the longer price at 8/1; will be flying late.
Long Shot - Hyperbaric
Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $66,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
Bullsbay - Been away 3-months, should be fresh and fit; like the turnback in distance, Victor Espinoza opted to ride colt.
Cost of Freedom - Hate the rail post in this elongated sprint; tactical speed for Gomez to protect his post or take back.
Long Shot - Cherokee Tear
Race 7 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Dr. J J - Sure to be overlooked off a modest maiden claiming win; he flew late to win after hopping in the air at the start.
Pictural - Favorite is strictly the one to beat; like the turn back in distance from a 2-turn route for an elongated sprint.
Long Shot - Syndicator
Race 8 - 7 furlongs, Purse $70,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
Barbecue Eddie - Has been away since a strenuous effort in the Dubai Golden Shaheen; not sure who wants to test him early.
Exceeding - If there is a sacrificial lamb to chase Barbecue Eddie, it'll set up for the closers; a hard knocker at a price.
Long Shot - Forest Phantom
Race 9 - 7 furlongs, $150,000 A Gleam Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Spenditallbaby - She offers great value as a filly who loves 7-furlongs and synthetic surfaces; will be flying late.
Tiz Elemental - Was upset last time by Spenditallbaby, maybe the Cal-bred fillies will be tough again; can we beat the chalk.
Long Shot - Dawn After Dawn
Race 10 - 1 1/4 miles, $750,000 Hollywood Gold Cup, 3-year-olds and up
Big Booster - Got a perfect prep last time winning in hand; Bejarano must be sick because he opted to go with Heatseeker.
Go Between - Had no excuse losing the Ben Ali to a horse who would be 20/1 in here; Mott shipped out for a reason though.
Long Shot - Student Council
Race 11 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $62,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Ampys Lil Girl - Found her best stride too late for Joel Rosario; she could improve a step, enough to upset these.
Ima Offended - Did all the dirty work in debut to finish second best; big rider switch to Bejarano for the money shot.
Long Shot - American Freestyle
Best Bet - Daytona (race 5)
Hollywood Thursday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 13/2/$11.00; Long Shots, 7/1/$9.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Totals - 760/178/$1,169.20; Long Shots, 385/37/$377.60; Best Bets, 45/20/$85.60
